Frank Niro
Candidature — VP Pedagogical Affairs, Family Medicine/
VP CAP-MF (affaires pédagogiques, médecine familiale)
Hello et bonjour à tous,
I see pedagogy as the intersection where learner safety, wellness, and the quality of our training come together. It shapes how we show up for our patients and how we feel at the end of the day. When expectations, teaching, and the resident voice are aligned, the work becomes sustainable.
My motivation for joining the ARM was simple: to give residents a voice, especially those who might not feel heard. Through my work as a Family Medicine Delegate, with involvement in governance and continuous improvement committees and the FMRQ, I’ve had the chance to see how decisions are made and the individual and collective effort to improve our field. In my experience, improving family medicine isn’t about ability but about how we move the needle on expectations, feedback, and day-to-day workload.
I see a role for CAP-FM in making that path clearer. Transparency in expectations, evaluations, and feedback, with mutual accountability. And making sure the right issues are brought forward and addressed, not pushed back onto residents. So that the workload is acknowledged transparently, and we have the right tools to support us.
Our undergrad taught us medicine and made us doctors; our residency will prepare us for CFPC exams and independent practice in family medicine. We all have the ability. What’s truly at stake is how we navigate residency and the structures in place to help us take care of ourselves so we can keep showing up for others.
That’s why I’m choosing to take on this role. I genuinely care about this. I see a role as CAP-FM as a trusted advisor, building on the conversations we’re already having and giving you a clear way to bring your voice forward, with someone you know has your back.
Sincerely,
Frank
