Candidature — International Medical Graduate Delegate

Dear colleagues,

My name is Abdullah Alkharashi, and I am a PGY-2 Orthopaedic Surgery resident and an international medical graduate from Saudi Arabia.

I would like to begin by congratulating our PGY-1 colleagues. You made it! I would also like to wish all my colleagues across every year of residency a successful year and a rewarding training experience.

I am excited to announce my candidacy for the IMG representative seat within the Association of Residents of McGill. As an IMG resident entering my second year, I have come to appreciate the important role ARM plays in supporting residents, advocating for their needs, and strengthening our community. This motivated me to become more involved and contribute to the well-being of my colleagues, especially IMG residents.

Throughout my journey, I have participated in committees focused on student extracurricular activities. I was part of an elected student group that worked to re-establish my university medical student club. In addition, I served as an assistant chief for my cohort during my fifth year of medical school. These experiences strengthened my communication, teamwork, leadership, and advocacy skills.

If elected as IMG representative, I will further contribute to the great achievements the ARM has succeeded in. My priorities will be to represent your interests, listen to your concerns, improve communication, and maintain safe environment where residents feel truly comfortable reaching out.

I understand the challenges IMG residents may face, and I would be honored to earn your trust and represent your voice within ARM.
