Candidature — Family Medicine Representative Delegate
Dear Members of the Association of Residents of McGill,
Residency is one of the most rewarding periods of medical training, but it can also be demanding. Long hours, clinical responsibilities, examinations, and the transition into independent practice can create significant stress. In Family Medicine, we often counsel our patients on the importance of wellness, resilience, and seeking support when needed. As residents, we must also foster a culture where these values are prioritized for ourselves and our peers. As Family Medicine Residents’ Representatives, it is our duty to create a welcoming and collaborative environment for all Family Medicine residents, regardless of their training site or background.
My previous leadership experiences have prepared me well for the role of Family Medicine Resident Representative. As President of the Ultrasound Interest Group, I was responsible for organizing educational activities, coordinating with faculty and students, and ensuring that the interests and needs of our members were represented. This experience strengthened my ability to listen to diverse perspectives, advocate for my peers, and bring people together around shared goals.
In my role as Vice-President of Partnerships, I developed strong communication and networking skills by building relationships with external organizations, sponsors, and stakeholders. This required collaboration, diplomacy, and the ability to find common ground between different groups. These are qualities that I believe are essential for an effective resident representative, particularly when serving as a bridge between residents and program leadership.
Together, these experiences taught me the importance of representation, transparency, and community engagement. They also reinforced my belief that strong professional communities contribute significantly to both learning and well-being. As a Family Medicine Resident Representative, I would draw upon these leadership experiences to advocate for my colleagues, promote resident wellness, and help foster an inclusive and supportive training environment.
Thank you sincerely for considering my application.
I look forward to meeting all of you!
